Blackfriars Settlement was started by volunteers, and volunteers remain crucial to the work we do. We believe volunteering should be of benefit to the community and to the volunteer. All volunteers are trained and supported by staff, and we aim that all volunteering is a positive and enjoyable experience. We are always recruiting, and are looking for people or all ages, and abilities.

If you are looking for an opportunity which helps you connect with your local community and makes use of your talents, then please look at our roles below.

Corporate Volunteers

Short and long term volunteering
opportunities are available.

Are you looking for a group volunteering day for your company? Why not do a kitchen takeover day. This is our most popular volunteering opportunity. Come and cook for our older people, spend some time with them, and maybe even arrange some afternoon entertainment or activities.

For more information about volunteering and how to get involved, please contact Eva Henry:

“It has been a privilege to be a befriender this year. The elderly lady whom I visit on a weekly basis, is always pleased to see me. She is delightful to chat with, and especially enjoys going out in her wheelchair to the local park or shops.

I am learning about her local neighbourhood which is fascinating to me as I am new to London. She also enjoys reminiscing about the past, which is interesting too. The time we spend together is very rewarding for both of us.”
